The 2022 Canadian Amateur Grand National Championship, often referred to as the Canadian Loretta’s, held at Walton Raceway in Ontario, Canada took place the week of August 8th, leading into the final round of the Triple Crown Canadian Motocross Championships. In the paddock was the Honda Canada GDR Fox Racing team, a team that’s been scratching out old records to fill in new ones among the professional Canadian motocross circuit quite frequently. With a strong history in Canadian powersports, Wiseco has proudly been involved with the GDR Honda team for several seasons, working closely with them on providing the pistons they need for reliable, Championship-winning power.
Leading into the final round of the 2022 Triple Crown season, Dylan Wright of the GDR Honda team had already wrapped up the 450 Championship after winning every single moto that had taken place thus far. However, that didn’t stop him from continuing to perform on the motorcycle in the dominant fashion he had all season as he swept both motos at the final round in Walton, too, making it a perfect season with twenty straight moto wins. Twenty straight wins is an accomplishment you have to mull over in your head a couple times before fully realizing the amount of skill, talent and consistency it takes to accomplish a feat like that. This is the first time this has been done in Canadian Motocross history.
Over in the 250 class, GDR Honda rider, Ryder McNabb, was following Dylan’s lead with winning ways throughout the season. He entered the final round at Walton with a 23 point lead in the 250 Championship after four overall wins and three podium overalls. Ryder knew what he had to do to maintain his points lead and bring home the title, which is exactly what he did with a 3rd place overall finish and most importantly, the 2022 Triple Crown Canadian Motocross 250 Championship.
Like the GDR Honda 450s, the team’s 250 race machines rely on Wiseco’s racing piston experience to get them to the front of the pack after the gate drop, and of course over the finish line throughout a day of roughly 30 minute motos. Ryder’s 250 title was enough to earn him a spot in the record books as the youngest racer to win a Canadian Pro National Championship at the age of 16. These simultaneous titles mark the second time in the past four seasons GDR Honda has clinched both championships in the same year, a tough task to execute even once.
With these titles under their belts, Dylan and Ryder’s next gate drop for 2022 will be with this year’s Canadian Motocross of Nations Team, an event being held at the famous Red Bud MX in Michigan, USA (the Wiseco crew will be in attendance – stop by and see us if you’re there!).
The entire Wiseco team would like the Honda Canada GDR Fox Racing team for the longtime partnership in performance and the opportunity to be a part of their legendary accomplishments in motocross. Cheers to an incredible season, burnouts for the win!
